The vault

She stores the memories in a vault

deep inside her brain.

She doesn’t want to lose them,

so she’ll never see them again.

She knows where they are,

but she’ll never visit them there,

But she knows they’re unchanged

by light, dust, and air,

and all the lies that she thinks

and the futures she sees

as she works out the kinks

on just how to get free.

She had tried to do right

to do what she had said,

but she messed up her life

and it runs through her head.

And she can’t let it go

but no one else knows it.

There’s a hole in her heart;

she doesn’t think she can close it.

Unless she can undo

the mistakes of her past

or find a way to get through

and find it fast.
